Training at Aura Skin Institute

In recent times, many new and applied branches of medicine and treatments have come up, which require trained manpower. In Dermatology, considerable advancements have taken place in instrumentation viz. use of newer laser lights, radiofrequency (RF) and ultrasonic techniques for various skin treatments. And the desire and need for these procedures aimed at total transformation/rejuvenation of the body and face is increasing with each passing day.

Such advancements have created huge demand for trained manpower, which unfortunately cannot be met by existing medical institutes owing to lack of availability of such machines and equipments in public funded hospitals. This is because these instruments find applications primarily in Cosmetic Dermatology which has grown mainly in the private sector.

Aura skin institute is an innovation-driven and pioneering institute based in the ‘city beautiful’ Chandigarh that has won many National and International awards of excellence in Cosmetic Dermatology and Dermato-surgery. It offers world-class treatments in Cosmetic Dermatology on both preventive and therapeutic lines. Dermatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the diseases of hair, nails and skin and covers both medical and surgical treatments.

Dermatology can be divided into three broad categories:

  • Medical Dermatology – dealing mainly with the diagnosis and treatment of medical diseases of skin, nails and hair.
  • Dermato-Surgery – dealing with surgical treatments like vitiligo surgery, in-grown toe nail surgery, mole and wart removal etc.
  • Cosmetic or Aesthetic Dermatology – Cosmetic Dermatology or Aesthetic Dermatology is emerging as one of the most important and sought after field in medicine. As the name suggests, Cosmetic/Aesthetic Dermatology mainly focuses on enhancing one’s physical appearance. Earlier it used to be mainly under the purview of Plastic Surgery and patients had to undergo the knife of a surgeon to get the desired looks. But now-a-days with recent advancements in science and technology, the main focus has shifted to non-surgical, non-invasive techniques and there has been unprecedented rise in the demand for these procedures to look good and young.

The major components of Cosmetic / Aesthetic Dermatology are Laser Treatments, Anti-aging solutions, Body contouring, Non-surgical Fat reduction, Hair Transplant and other Dermato-surgeries like vitiligo surgery, sutureless ear lobe repair etc.

The quality, safety and results of these procedures largely depend upon the knowledge, skill and expertise of the treating clinician and the operator performing these procedures.

Emerging economies such as the BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) are witnessing a tremendous rise in need for Dermatology especially Cosmetic Dermatology services and will serve the market as future growth opportunities. Asia-Pacific region will be the fastest-growing market in the times to come.

iData Research estimates that the number of laser and other cosmetic treatments being carried out in India will exceed 5.5 million by Dec 2017, which is really encouraging for the aspiring Indian Cosmetic Dermatologists!

Overall Demand for Cosmetic Procedures to Sky-rocket

With the rising hunger or need for the total transformation of the body and face, Indian Wellness Industry is set to witness substantial growth. As New India prepares to embrace latest innovations in Cosmetic Dermatology, there will be huge demand of consultants in cosmetic dermatology and other trained laser and cosmetic therapists as compared to the previous decade.

The Indian market has recently shown tremendous response in the skin and hair care treatments with a whopping 62 % of the younger generation in the age group of 22 to 30 years of the tier 1 and tier 2 cities opting to avail these services in order to improve their look and style.

While more than 34% of the population in the age group of 30 to 45 years wants fat reduction and body contouring by non-surgical methods without disturbing their day to day activities. And all this is not surprising because there is an increasing trend to ape Bollywood and Hollywood celebrities like never before!

The Indian cosmetic dermatology market is poised for growth. “At its current growth rate, the trend is expected to increase at around 20 per cent over the next 3-4 years, thereby indicating that this segment has immense potential in the Indian market.”

Thus the acute shortage of Cosmetic Dermatologists and other trained aestheticians and technicians in this field is expected to persist for the foreseeable future.

Majority of the Professional Institutes in India, which offer medical degree courses including MD / DNB Dermatology courses don’t have Cosmetic or Aesthetic Dermatology facilities available in their ambit at their hospitals. Therefore most of doctors don’t get exposure to these new techniques during their training. Further, those who intend to learn these procedures after completing their studies need to go abroad, which many of them can’t afford due to time and financial constraints. And those few, who want to start their practice by buying these high end lasers and other equipments, can’t get the trained staff to operate these machines.

To overcome these obstacles by bridging the gap and to provide a comprehensive learning platform, Aura Skin Institute has envisaged the concept of bringing training programs for doctors, aestheticians, nurses and other medical personnel. The secondary rationale being our belief that ‘teaching is like learning twice’ and ‘knowledge increases by sharing’; so in the process we augment our own knowledge bank as well.

Our training programs are very interactive and provide extensive hands-on training apart from didactic lectures, live/video demos, working manuals and an access to webinars on latest topics by various international experts.
